Rattles with animal hooves have been used by shamans for generations. They serve as a medium to summon the spirits. These rattles are also popular as a traditional musical instrument.
The hooves of the lamas were originally used in the Andes. After the arrival of the Spaniards, more and more goat hooves were used.
