Small stone figures:
Our stone figures come from an order from "Artesanos de Pacasmayo". A large number of stone engravings made from “Marmolina” are created in the workshops of the Association. So also our little animal figures. There are no limits to the creative diversity. Small dolphins, dogs, cats, buffalo, donkeys, elephants, frogs and many other animals of various sizes are created in the skilled hands of the artisans. The minerals / stones give the animal figures their color and an interesting pattern. This makes each of these figures unique.
Due to the different stone colors, the figures vary from gray to yellowish (cream) to red. Please understand that we cannot photograph every single shade and pattern of this product.
Stone processing:
The processing of stones into figures (mostly animal figures) takes place in various places in Peru. This is how stones are processed in Huamanga and Ayacucho.
Various stones are used that are easy to work with. "Silla" (a soft type of alabaster) is found in Arrequipa and the "Marmolina" in Pacasmayo. In Lima, mainly semi-precious stones are processed (onyx, quartz, obsidian and turquoise). First, the material that is to be used for the work is selected. Then the stones are cut into several blocks, depending on the size of the figures that are to be created from them. Because of the extreme dust formation, the saws are often operated with water rinsing. The figures are then roughly and then finely worked with various tools and brought to perfection. As a final step in most workshops, the finished pieces are given a thin layer of varnish using an immersion bath to close the pores of the material.
