Stone figures:
Our stone figures come from a first trial order from "Artesanos de Pacasmayo". A large number of stone engravings are made in the workshops of the Association. From "Marmolina". So also our little animal figures. There are no limits to the creative diversity. In the skilled hands of the artisans, small dolphins, dogs, cats, buffalo, donkeys, elephants, frogs and many other animals of various sizes are created. The minerals / stones give the animal figures their color and an interesting pattern. As a result, each of these figures is unique.
Stone processing:
The processing of stones into figures (mostly animal figures) takes place in various places in Peru. So stones are processed in Huamanga, Ayacucho and Pacasmayo. Various stones are used that are easy to work with. "Silla" (a soft type of alabaster) is found in Arrequipa and the "Marmolina" in Pacasmayo. In Lima, mainly semi-precious stones are processed (onyx, quartz, obsidian and turquoise). First, the material that is to be used for the work is selected. Then the stones are cut into several blocks, depending on the size of the figures that are to be created from them. Because of the extreme dust formation, the saws are often operated with water rinsing. The figures are then roughly and then finely worked with various tools and brought to perfection. As a final step in most workshops, the finished pieces are given a thin layer of varnish using an immersion bath to close the pores of the material.
