Origin: Huancayo, Peru
Producer: Family Llacza (small family business) from Huancayo / Peru
Huancayo - is located in the first mountain range in the Andes of Peru - about 6 hours from Lima.
The region is predominantly agar and, due to the mild climatic conditions, very rich in agricultural products. Over the years, a stable regional economic center has developed there. People are very active, which is a great contrast to the surrounding regions.
The Llacza family has been working in the weaving industry for 30 years and has experienced many ups and downs, even during the period of terrorism. Nevertheless, the family remained in the arts and crafts and didn't give up, even though the yields were sometimes very low during these times.
Thanks to the good cooperation with a fair trade partner in France, the family was finally able to expand their production and train several women. New models were designed and special machines were developed for the production. In the meantime, a small business has emerged that is run by the couple.
High quality materials are used for the production u. a. 50% alpaca wool and 50% sheep wool. There are always new models in the accessories area. The products are woven in the family business and the embroidery work is given to women working at home. This way, these women can look after their children and still have the opportunity to earn money. The women have health insurance and are given one meal a day. The basic salary is above the general wage level in Peru.
